When your throat hurts.

A sore throat is pain, scratchiness or irritation of the throat that often worsens when you swallow. The most common cause of a sore throat (pharyngitis) is a viral infection, such as a cold or the flu. Strep throat (streptococcal infection), a less common type of sore throat caused by bacteria. Usual symptoms of a sore throat are  pain that worsens with swallowing or talking,

difficulty swallowing.

When your throat hurts, it is often difficult to eat and drink. This circumstance largely determines the choice of food and drink. Food should be soft and easy to swallow. It is desirable that food and especially drinks be warm, avoiding additional irritation of the sore throat. What is recommended:                                   -Warm, thoroughly cooked pasta, possibly with the addition of cheese.                    -Warm oatmeal.                                                                                                           -Pure yogurt or yogurt with peeled fruit.                                                                      -Boiled vegetables.                                                                                                       -Drinks from fruit and vegetables.                                                                              -Mashed potatoes.                                                                                                         -Various soups and broths.                                                                                          -Milk.                                                                                                                             -Fruit juices from so-called alkaline fruits, such as grape or apple. Alkaline and acidic foods differ in the pH balance.                                                                         -Scrambled eggs or hard-boiled eggs.                                                                      Of course, this list gives a general idea of what is reasonable to feed people with a sore throat and can be expanded if the above principle is followed.

And what is strongly discouraged from giving to those who have a sore throat:       -Dry biscuits (crackers).                                                                                               -Bread with a hard crust.                                                                                              -Hot spices and sauces.                                                                                                -Coffee, alcohol,                                                                                                           -Dry snacks such as potato chips or popcorn.                                                             -Fresh raw vegetables, fruits or juices from fruits that are acidic such as tomatoes, oranges, lemons or grapefruits,                                                                            There is no specific recommendation regarding milk and dairy products, because sometimes these products cause the appearance of mucus. This makes you clear your throat more often, which is not very comfortable with a sore throat. Although this does not directly relate to food, I want to note the benefits of salt in treating a sore throat. Warm water with a pinch of salt added. Gargle with this water and spit out the water after gargling. The first handy and quite effective medicine.
